aXcess: Theological Education for Discipleship in Indonesia

Join the church in Papua, Indonesia, as they face great opportunity to impact their “Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the world” while facing great need for further discipleship. The international worker(s) will focus on equipping pastors through formal education and practical discipleship, modeling and training the next generation of shepherds and leaders for the church. Collaborate with the C&MA camp ministry to provide teaching and messages for the discipling of young adults in pastoral training. Since the church is broadly based geographically, the international worker(s) will also teach intensive classes at Timika Theological School and visit highland districts to minister in local churches.

Position Type

  • International worker (IW)–aXcess –Clergy Track
  • Single or couple
  • Discipleship, education, theological education, leadership development

Responsibilities:

Ministry Location Information:

Indonesia is a large archipelago made up of over 17,000 islands and about 700 languages, with hundreds of unreached people groups in the country. The Alliance first entered Indonesia in 1929, and the national church has grown to be self-sustaining in several provinces. Against a backdrop of amazing church growth in the highlands of Papua in the 1960s and 1970s, the church in Papua now is facing multiple challenges: evangelizing and discipling the ongoing generations, interfacing with and being a light to the majority population of the country, addressing frequent injustices and societal tension, and navigating the huge changes brought about when interior highlanders emerged from the Stone Age less than 100 years ago straight into the 21st century. New international workers will find both Timika and Sentani to be small cities populated by many different Papuan tribes and also by Indonesians from other islands.

Language is an essential part of ministry. Those who do not know the language will attend a language study program.

Whole-Life Health

As part of an evangelical denomination, we are committed to biblical holism, which is modeled and reflected through our work. Due to this commitment, part of the required qualifications includes optimal emotional, spiritual, and physical health. These will be assessed during the application process.

Important Clarification

Applicant(s) should be aware that serving in the international world often requires a higher degree of grace and flexibility. For example, overseas teams can be suddenly and unexpectedly impacted by illness, government decisions, financial realities, team changes, or other factors beyond the team’s control. The challenge for applicants is that these factors can sometimes necessitate the sudden redefining of a position, which may take place before, during, or after the application/interview process has begun or is completed.
