aXcess: Spiritual Formation, Leadership Development, and Church Planting in Manchester, UK, and Beyond

As part of the lead pastoral staff at The Alliance Manchester (International) (TAM), you will lead the preaching team, aiming to engage a diverse and international congregation in Manchester’s vibrant Rusholme community. Your ministry should emphasize cultural relevance and transformative biblical truth. You will champion spiritual formation through teaching spiritual disciplines blended with the Alliance tradition—emphasizing Christ as Savior, Sanctifier, Healer, and Coming King. Discipleship is nurtured via one-to-one and small‑group courses, focusing on Bible study, prayer, mentorship, and life‑application to raise faithful followers who teach others. Leadership development includes equipping emerging leaders both within TAM and throughout the Alliance GB. Outreach is lived through accessible worship services, community English classes, café ministry, prayer meetings, and cross‑cultural evangelism in Greater Manchester, reflecting the Alliance mission of evangelizing and discipling all cultures within the city.

Position Type

  • International worker (IW)–aXcess  –Clergy Track
  • Couple
  • Church planting, community center, discipleship, theological education, evangelism, leadership development, refugee or immigrant ministry

Responsibilities:

Ministry Location Information:

Manchester is a welcoming, affordable city rich in culture and history. The city blends vibrant music, museums, and festivals with leafy suburbs like Didsbury, Chorlton, or the Heatons—each ideal for families. Manchester is known as a multicultural city with a large diaspora and international student population, giving the city an eclectic feel. This ethnic mix can create tension in the city as so many cultures and values mix together. With affordable housing, strong transport links, and easy access to the countryside or travel across Europe, Manchester is both practical and inspiring for family life. At less than 8 percent evangelical Christian, Manchester is a strategic city for church planting.

Characteristics of International Workers:

Required Qualifications:

Clergy (Consecration & Ordination) Track

Preferred Qualifications:

Language Expectations:

Language is an essential part of ministry. Those who do not know the language will attend a language study program. The goal will be to speak, read, and write the language at a functional level in order to mentor, teach, and train others.

Although you will find many languages spoken in Manchester, Alliance ministry will be conducted in English.

Health Considerations:

Manchester has a high standard of medical care with local hospitals and clinics available right in the city.

Expectations for Spouse:

Spousal roles vary based on the spouse’s gifts, training, and abilities as well as the needs of the team. It is expected that both spouses will be meaningfully involved in meeting ministry objectives depending on the nature of family roles, children, etc.

This is a couple role where both spouses are expected to serve at The Alliance Manchester (TAM).

Children’s Education:

You’ll find excellent schooling—from trusted state primaries to international IB programs. Numerous local and private schools exist in Manchester, which are taught in English. Homeschooling—legally known in the UK as “elective home education” (EHE)—is fully legal across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

Black Forest Academy (BFA) in Kandern, Germany, is an excellent option for students in grades 9–12. BFA follows a North American curriculum, offers Advanced Placement courses, and serves a diverse international student body in a supportive residential environment.

Compensation Package

The successful applicant(s) will receive a full compensation package with the expectation that, once appointed, efforts will be made to raise a portion of support costs through the applicant’s network of friends, family, local church, or other resources. Information on support costs will be made available upon application. Training and/or coaching in fundraising is available.

Whole-Life Health

As part of an evangelical denomination, we are committed to biblical holism, which is modeled and reflected through our work. Due to this commitment, part of the required qualifications includes optimal emotional, spiritual, and physical health. These will be assessed during the application process.

Important Clarification

Applicant(s) should be aware that serving in the international world often requires a higher degree of grace and flexibility. For example, overseas teams can be suddenly and unexpectedly impacted by illness, government decisions, financial realities, team changes, or other factors beyond the team’s control. The challenge for applicants is that these factors can sometimes necessitate the sudden redefining of a position, which may take place before, during, or after the application/interview process has begun or is completed.
