aXcess: Reaching the Middle Eastern Diaspora in Germany
Over the last decade, Germany has received a flood of refugees and immigrants from the Arab world, making it a strategic location for ministry among diasporic peoples. The new international worker filling this role will work on an interdependent team both in a community center setting and through intentional hospitality. The team is committed to engaging these immigrants and refugees with the gospel with the goal establishing a network of diaspora churches. The primary ministry focus will be on reaching Arabic-speaking peoples who are transplanted in a very secular East-meets-West city.
Position Type
- International worker (IW)–aXcess –Vocational Track or Clergy Track
- Creative-access country (CAC)

- Church planting, community center, discipleship, evangelism, refugee or immigrant ministry
Responsibilities:
- Build relationships
- Support center programs
- Disciples and evangelize
- Initiate, manage, and follow through on team events
- Learn the languages
Ministry Location Information:
The ministry focus will be on a group of people who are not a part of the majority culture. People on the move, such as immigrants and refugees, tend to be more open to the gospel. While there are encouraging signs of openness to the gospel, the overall number of believers remains low. The new international worker filling this role will live in a major urban city with high refugee and immigrant density. Additionally, this major European city is extremely multicultural, with over 80 percent of people who live in this city having a migration story. However, while this city lies at the intersection between Eastern and Western worldviews, its irreligious context makes it an interesting location to serve often highly religious diasporic peoples. The international worker will need to be able live in and meet the demands of living in a major city that never sleeps.

- Experienced in cross-cultural ministry with Arabs

Language Expectations:
Language is an essential part of ministry. Those who do not know the language will attend a language study program. The goal will be to speak, read, and write the language at a functional level in order to mentor, teach, and train others.
Language learning will include formal language classes, self-study, and private tutors, as needed. The option of spending time in the Middle East to study Arabic will be considered. Language students are expected to reach an intermediate level of Arabic and a minimum of the B1-level of German.
Health Considerations:
Public transit, bicycling, and walking are the main forms of transportation. Applicants must be able to meet the demands of living in the city. Germany is well-equipped with a good western European medical infrastructure comparable to the U.S.
Expectations for Spouse:
Spousal roles vary based on the spouse’s gifts, training, and abilities as well as the needs of the team. It is expected that both spouses will be meaningfully involved in meeting ministry objectives depending on the nature of family roles, children, etc.
Children’s Education:
Local public schools offer quality education for elementary, middle, and high school-aged students. Homeschooling is prohibited in Germany. Black Forest Academy (BFA) in Kandern, Germany, is an excellent option for students in grades 9–12. BFA follows a North American curriculum, offers Advanced Placement courses, and serves a diverse international student body in a supportive residential environment.
Compensation Package
The successful applicant(s) will receive a full compensation package with the expectation that, once appointed, efforts will be made to raise a portion of support costs through the applicant’s network of friends, family, local church, or other resources. Information on support costs will be made available upon application. Training and/or coaching in fundraising is available.
Whole-Life Health
As part of an evangelical denomination, we are committed to biblical holism, which is modeled and reflected through our work. Due to this commitment, part of the required qualifications includes optimal emotional, spiritual, and physical health. These will be assessed during the application process.
Important Clarification
Applicant(s) should be aware that serving in the international world often requires a higher degree of grace and flexibility. For example, overseas teams can be suddenly and unexpectedly impacted by illness, government decisions, financial realities, team changes, or other factors beyond the team’s control. The challenge for applicants is that these factors can sometimes necessitate the sudden redefining of a position, which may take place before, during, or after the application/interview process has begun or is completed.
