aXcess: Make Disciples Across Cultural Divides Through Community Center Ministry in the Holy Land

New workers will be based in the largest city in the country where The Alliance has a historic presence. New workers will join the newly launched community center team, which seeks to reach one of the most diverse neighborhoods on a strategic street in the city. The current team has offered a wide variety of programming aimed at engaging a broad range of people groups and demographics in order to form relationships for communicating the gospel and deeper discipleship.

Position Type

  • International worker (IW)–aXcess–Clergy Track
  • Church planting, community center, community development (urban), discipleship, education, ESL/TESOL, evangelism
  • Partially funded
  • Single or couple

Responsibilities:

Required Qualifications:

Clergy Track

Preferred Qualifications:

Biblical Characteristics Desired:

Timeline for Deployment:

Summer/fall 2027. All appointees are required to attend a cross-cultural and language acquisition program and pre-field course/experience prior to deploying.

General Information:

This city has modern infrastructure on par with most Western cities. The area is rich in history and culture and has many recreational options. Locals are generally welcoming to outsiders, but it requires time and effort to form deep relationships. The expression of the various religions represented in Israel is interwoven into daily life. Because of the ongoing war, new workers will need to demonstrate higher levels of flexibility and resilience as they move through the process of preparation and deployment.

Language Expectations:

Language is an essential part of ministry. Those who do not know the language will attend a language study program. The goal will be to speak, read, and write the language at a functional level in order to mentor, teach, and train others.

IWs for this position will go to a local language school designed to help non-native speakers acquire the language with a high degree of competence. After full time language, IWs will continue with part-time language study and depending on ministry focus, may consider some basic Arabic study.

Health Considerations:

Healthcare is considered very good, and doctors are generally well-trained. Emergency services are readily available. Little provision is made for people with disabilities, especially in the Arab sector. Most medications are readily available.

Expectations for Spouse:

Spousal roles vary based on the spouse’s gifts, training, and abilities as well as the needs of the team. It is expected that both spouses will be meaningfully involved in meeting ministry objectives depending on the nature of family roles, children, etc.

For married couples, the spouse is expected to study language full time for two years. Ministry assignments will be determined prayerfully and in dialogue with the team, branch, and field leadership.

Children’s Educational Plan and Options:

Families have the choice between several options. Some international worker families have chosen public schools, which are well-funded and have a good standard of educational achievement. Private Christian schools are available. Families with high school children also have the option of Black Forest Academy, a boarding school in Germany.

Compensation Package

The successful applicant(s) will receive a full compensation package with the expectation that, once appointed, efforts will be made to raise a portion of support costs through the applicant’s network of friends, family, local church, or other resources. Information on support costs will be made available upon application. Training and/or coaching in fundraising is available.

Whole-Life Health

As part of an evangelical denomination, we are committed to biblical holism, which is modeled and reflected through our work. Due to this commitment, part of the required qualifications includes optimal emotional, spiritual, and physical health. These will be assessed during the application process.

Important Clarification

Applicant(s) should be aware that serving in the international world often requires a higher degree of grace and flexibility. For example, overseas teams can be suddenly and unexpectedly impacted by illness, government decisions, financial realities, team changes, or other factors beyond the team’s control. The challenge for applicants is that these factors can sometimes necessitate the sudden redefining of a position, which may take place before, during, or after the application/interview process has begun or is completed.
