aXcess: Church Planting Through Community Development Among Vietnamese in Cambodia
Although the gospel has taken root and thrived in Vietnam, across the border in Cambodia, immigrants from Vietnam remain without light—even though they are surrounded by the already-reached Khmer people who have experienced hope. Come take the gospel to places where it has not yet been heard using creative avenues such as a community center or other vocational opportunities. We are praying for those willing to form a team with other international workers, local Bible school graduates, or other local believers to go outside Phnom Penh to reach the Vietnamese in new and creative ways.
Position Type
- International worker (IW)–aXcess –Vocational Track or Clergy Track
- Single or couple
- Business, business development, church planting, community center, rural community development, discipleship, ESL/TESOL, evangelism, medical
Responsibilities:
- Work with the team to identify concentrations of unchurched Vietnamese to engage
- Work with the team to develop appropriate platforms to engage unreached communities
- Use skills and experience to serve unreached communities (via community development) and build relationships
- Use relationships to share the gospel and make disciples

Ministry Location Information:
Those of us who thrive in Cambodia have fallen in love with the people, scarred but still pushing on, and thus can live with the sub-optimum conditions. Living amongst an immigrant population embedded in a not-so-welcoming majority people group brings its own challenges, but God is at work! There are more than 750,000 Vietnamese who live in Cambodia, and on average, less than 1 in 500 is evangelical.

Language Expectations:
Language is an essential part of ministry. Those who do not know the language will attend a language study program. The goal will be to speak, read, and write the language at a functional level in order to mentor, teach, and train others.
New international worker(s) will spend one year doing full-time language in Vietnam followed by another year of full-time language study in Cambodia to learn Khmer. Additional time may be spent learning language following the first two years.
Health Considerations:
Good health is required since Cambodia is part of the developing world. The health system in Cambodia is poor (but better than it used to be!). Excellent hospitals and doctors are close by in Thailand.
Expectations for Spouse:
Spousal roles vary based on the spouse’s gifts, training, and abilities as well as the needs of the team. It is expected that both spouses will be meaningfully involved in meeting ministry objectives depending on the nature of family roles, children, etc.
Children’s Education:
During language study there are international schools available, but once a ministry location is selected outside the city, homeschooling, a local school, or boarding schools (in Penang, Malaysia, and Chiang Mai, Thailand) are all options.
Compensation Package
The successful applicant(s) will receive a full compensation package with the expectation that, once appointed, efforts will be made to raise a portion of support costs through the applicant’s network of friends, family, local church, or other resources. Information on support costs will be made available upon application. Training and/or coaching in fundraising is available.
Whole-Life Health
As part of an evangelical denomination, we are committed to biblical holism, which is modeled and reflected through our work. Due to this commitment, part of the required qualifications includes optimal emotional, spiritual, and physical health. These will be assessed during the application process.
Important Clarification
Applicant(s) should be aware that serving in the international world often requires a higher degree of grace and flexibility. For example, overseas teams can be suddenly and unexpectedly impacted by illness, government decisions, financial realities, team changes, or other factors beyond the team’s control. The challenge for applicants is that these factors can sometimes necessitate the sudden redefining of a position, which may take place before, during, or after the application/interview process has begun or is completed.
