CAMA: Serve at a Holistic Ministry Center in Japan
The Ishinomaki New LIFE Center has been reaching the community through a variety of services including counseling, sports ministry, English classes, Bible studies, community gardening, and more. Embed yourself in small-town Japan to cultivate relationships while investing your gifts, skills, and experience to develop an unreached people and community facing pressing spiritual, social, and educational needs. You’ll join a team and be mentored by seasoned workers with experience in both community development and church planting to continue developing and operating the holistic ministry center and an educational cooperative. You’ll support both Japanese and expatriate middle and high school students who are either completing their education online, through homeschooling, or are preparing to reintegrate into local educational institutions. You will help develop and implement a TESOL program tailored to local K–12 Japanese students with a focus on reaching and developing school dropouts and students at risk of dropping out.
Position Type

- Education, community wellness and advocacy
Responsibilities:
- Build meaningful relationships while learning Japanese language and culture in the context of a local Japanese community (two years)

Ministry Location Information:
The new worker will live in Ishinomaki, Japan. Ishinomaki is a small seaside city of 120,000 people situated along the northeast coastline of Japan. It is a mostly blue-collar population. Miyagi prefecture, of which Ishinomaki is the second largest city, has the highest rates of school dropouts nationally. Japan has a long and distinctive cultural and historical heritage. This has given rise to ways of thinking and customs different from those of the West. Knowing how to approach these differences actively and thoughtfully can facilitate the necessary learning to adapt gracefully to your particular situation and setting. Through active engagement in holistic ministry, you will seek to introduce others to Jesus Christ, disciple them, and see them established in Christian community. Freedom of religion is guaranteed to all by the constitution, and visas for religious activity are readily available. Evangelicals are less than 0.5 percent of the population.

CAMA Services is the relief and development specialized structure of Alliance Missions. As part of an evangelical denomination, we are committed to biblical holism, which is modeled and reflected through our work. Due to this commitment, part of the required qualifications includes optimal emotional, spiritual, and physical health. These will be assessed during the application process.
Important Clarification
Applicant(s) should be aware that serving in the international world often requires a higher degree of grace and flexibility. For example, overseas teams can be suddenly and unexpectedly impacted by illness, government decisions, financial realities, team changes, or other factors beyond the team’s control. The challenge for applicants is that these factors can sometimes necessitate the sudden redefining of a position, which may take place before, during, or after the application/interview process has begun or is completed.
