CAMA Helping Local Partners Provide Aid to Victims of Southeast Asia Earthquake
Deadly earthquake leaves men, women, and children even more vulnerable amid civil war
Based on an update from CAMA Services
On Friday, March 28, a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake rocked Southeast Asia, collapsing buildings, killing over 1,700 people, and injuring more than 3,400 in Myanmar, where the epicenter was. Several smaller tremors followed the initial quake.
All U.S. Alliance workers in the region have been reported safe. Mark and Kit, who serve with The Alliance in Thailand, said, “What first felt like dizziness or motion sickness was quickly identified as a significant earthquake. We were home while our son was at school. All the kids were safely evacuated, and later the buildings were inspected and deemed unharmed. We are so grateful to have so many joining us in prayer and support.”
CAMA Services, the relief and development arm of Alliance Missions, describes the earthquake as the deadliest natural disaster Myanmar has experienced in years. Due to a four-year civil war that has left countless civilians exposed to continued violence and in need of health care, food, and shelter, aid is now desperately needed by those who have been left even more vulnerable by this quake. CAMA is currently working to partner with local pastors in hurting areas to provide aid to those left in need by this disaster. Please pray for wisdom, discernment, and divine empowerment as CAMA international workers seek ways to get aid into devastated areas that are hard to reach.
