Prayer Letter/Ministry Update

May 2021

Sometimes we set off on a path confident of what's ahead, and then discover there might be dangers that we were unaware of, and find ourselves looking around to see how best to go on......have you?

What's ahead?
If you would have asked us this last week at this time the answer would have been--Central area prayer meeting, Joint Mission National Church Strategy meetings, a few days of vacation, an Aroma wedding, fellow missionaries staying at our home while their daughter quarantines at theirs, and other upcoming events.
However, now, at this time, it's postponed, cancelled, going ahead on-line, change of plans, and more postponements. Within the past week several persons were diagnosed with Covid 19 and clusters of exposed local residents have grown to numbers that have caused the government to put Taipei City and other northern cities to Level 3 status (out of 4) to help stop the spread.
As of now all Alliance Churches in Taiwan will be on-line this coming weekend. Everyone is heeding the masking and other protocols with hope that the outbreak can be contained. Up to this point Taiwan had stayed relatively "safe" being able to isolate any non-domestic cases through quarantine on arrival.
In the past week both Don and Rachel had some special times with "old friends" catching up on life and being refreshed. Times with co-workers and other church members from 20-30 years ago are refreshing and encouraging and give a boost to keep ministering in the days ahead. Rachel also shared a monologue of a Bible mother for Mother's Day and our pastor's wife revised a greeting we had used years ago into a lovely digital greeting. Praise God for her designing abilities. We rejoice when we see these present co-workers growing in new ways of considering how to "shepherd".

Prayer Requests/Answers to Prayer

Praise God for His presence and refreshing in relationships. Praise God for His compassion and care during times of stress and concern.
Pray for pastors and other church people who serve to learn new skills that will allow for the even greater spread of the Gospel in this time. Pray for our pastor, Eric as he develops in pastoring in this unique situations.
Pray for Penny Iverson, Taiwan Field Director, as she and the leadership team make decisions regarding scheduling changes that come unexpectedly.
Pray for rain for Taiwan, to fill reservoirs and meet the needs of the island.
Pray for Taiwan's people to persevere during this time of drought and Covid, but mostly for them to turn to the God who created and yearns to redeem them.
Pray for our Mission family to mutually support and care for each other as we discern when and how we can meet together, as international workers, with our local coworkers, and our church families.
Pray for our local believers to have a gracious testimony with their friends and families during the stress of dealing with Covid 19 on the island.
