Immanuel Church, Mechanicsburg, PA Church location description: Immanuel Church is in Mechanicsburg PA, a growing suburb of the capitol city of Harrisburg which has a metro area of about 500,000 people. It is located 10 minutes away from Messiah College, a short drive from the beautiful mountains of PA, and only a few hours away from major East Coast cities like Baltimore, Washington DC, and New York City. We are a multi-staff congregation of about 300 in average attendance and we belong to the Christian & Missionary Alliance. Title of job position: Associate Pastor of Discipleship Full/part time: Full-time (exempt position) Contact: Send cover letter and resume to: Steve Wiggins - email@example.com Lead Pastor at Immanuel Church Requirements/qualifications: o Principle Function: To build and advance a culture of adult discipleship, leadership development, and ministry throughout the church body. Also, assist the Lead Pastor in the oversight of the Church. o General Requirements: The Associate Pastor must be able to work well with all people of the Church, including the Lead Pastor, other staff members and lay leadership, as well as the general membership. He must support the vision of Immanuel Church. He must have a Christ-like character as outlined by 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. o Desired Qualifications: The Associate Pastor must be a graduate of a bible college, seminary or equivalent program. He must be (or become) a licensed worker and ordained with the Christian and Missionary Alliance. It is preferable to have several years of experience as a pastor and have demonstrated an ability to develop disciples. o Accountable To: Lead Pastor and ultimately to the Elders and Governing Board. He will also submit a monthly report to the Governing Board and an annual report to the congregation. He will receive an annual evaluation from the Lead Pastor, including input from other leaders in the church. o Duties and Responsibilities - Focus on leadership development and building teams to do the ministry of the church. Develop processes for identifying and investing in potential leaders. - Along with the Lead Pastor, develop a comprehensive discipleship strategy for people of all levels of spiritual maturity, from new believers to leaders. - Develop the small group ministry of Immanuel Church. Raise up a Small Groups point person or leadership team for recruiting and training small group leaders and general oversight of the groups. - Oversee the development of the adult Sunday School ministry and teach Sunday School as needed. Initiate other discipleship classes or groups throughout the week (such as accountability groups, FPU, GriefShare, marriage ministry, retired age ministry, etc). - Work with teams to develop and oversee a vital men’s and women’s ministry. - Oversee the assimilation and follow up process of newcomers, including overseeing the teams who welcome and serve them. - Work with the Lead Pastor and other pastoral staff in developing and casting vision. - Be a full team player and participant in churchwide events such as outreaches, VBS, vision-casting events, etc. - Coordinate with the deacons and deaconesses for development and direction of their ministries. - Assist with pastoral care and visitation as needed, including some hospital and shut-in visitation, funerals, counseling, and weddings. - Assist in the public worship services with the Lead Pastor, including preaching several times per year. - Serve as non-voting ex-officio member of the Governing Board and Elders.
