QUALIFICATIONS • The Pastor of Student Ministries must be accredited and licensed by the Christian and Missionary Alliance or in that process. He must be approved, and then appointed by the District Superintendent and Community Heights Governing Board, upon the recommendation of the lead pastor of Community Heights. • A qualified candidate will preferably: o have at least five years of full-time ministry experience o have earned or be in the process of earning a seminary level master’s degree o be married o take assessments to determine fit on the staff MINISTRY DESCRIPTION The role of the Pastor of Student Ministries is to oversee the student ministry strategy of Community Heights Alliance Church under the direction and leadership of the lead pastor. This will require embracing the mission, vision, strategies, and values of Community Heights, and aligning staff and key leadership teams with them. The Pastor of Student Ministries partners with and supports parents as they disciple their teenagers to follow Jesus. The Pastor of Student Ministries will be responsible for the following: 1. Living, Enjoying, and Modeling Authentic Discipleship – Simply Following Jesus. The Pastor of Student Ministries prioritizes both his own walk with Jesus, and his relationship with his wife and children, as prerequisites to his ministry. He lives to fulfill his purpose in life and ministry while demonstrating integrity in words, relationships, and actions. It is expected that the Pastor of Student Ministries will: • Develop vital, life-giving relationships with others on serving teams and in a small group. • Set appropriate boundaries that will protect his heart, his family, and his integrity. • Take opportunities to lead others toward Jesus. • Support the ministries of Community Heights by giving regularly and generously. • Adhere to the code of conduct for pastors as presented during the hiring process. • Pursue love and unity on the Community Heights staff and lay leadership teams. • Leverage opportunities afforded to him to grow, stretch, and expand his capacity. 2. Leadership of Student Ministries Staff and Volunteer Teams. Effectiveness in this role will require developing leaders who will in turn positively lead and influence parents and students. The Pastor of Student Ministries will create an environment that attracts, develops, and empowers leaders who provide ministry programming to students by: • Communicating a clear vision and defined ministry wins for staff and volunteer teams on a regular basis. • Creating and maintaining systems and structures that lead people from being spectators to becoming volunteers. • Overseeing safety and security systems for students. • Leading volunteer planning and training initiatives, i.e. meetings, retreats, conferences, etc. • Ensuring that student ministry volunteers are equipped to provide exceptional ministry (customer service) to parents and students on a regular basis. • Providing coaching and feedback to volunteers on a regular basis. • Engaging in ongoing strategic planning for all student ministry areas. • Creating and overseeing the student ministry budget. • Partnering with the Assimilation Process Team to move new families effectively into the life of the church. • Intentionally providing appreciation and affirmation to all student ministry volunteers. • Implementing a strategy to equip parents to help their teenagers take their next steps toward Jesus. • Providing opportunities for parents to increase their parenting skills and effectiveness. 3. Oversight and Execution of Student Ministry Environments Responsible for creating programming that provides engaging experiences and life-changing environments for students in Middle School and High School by: • Providing leadership, insight, and direction for big picture programming and creative planning processes. • Selecting relevant curriculum, props, and games for student program experiences. • Ensuring that check-in areas, ministry spaces, and signage are clear, current, and focused on new students and their families. • Producing videos, weekly announcement scripts, printed promotions, verbal announcements, social media, web page information, marketing, etc. for the student ministry. • Creating and maintaining a safe environment for students, including those with special needs. 4. Oversight and Execution of Student Small Groups Designs practical on-ramps and systems to help students move from visiting to belonging and growing by: • Developing a systematic and effective process for moving students into small group environments. • Overseeing and training small group leaders by providing curriculum, coaching materials, and creative approaches to small group ministry. • Engaging a system to track small group participation by students. • Providing opportunities for students to discover their unique purpose and begin developing their talents and abilities. 5. Additional Considerations • The Pastor of Student Ministries will be coached and developed by the lead pastor • He will be encouraged to calendar time for personal spiritual growth, prayer, professional development, and appropriate and sufficient personal sabbath. • He will, occasionally, be required to preach or teach, baptize, make hospital or other pastoral care visits, etc. as needed. • The lead pastor will encourage staff to be involved in expanded ministry, within their capacity to do so, beyond the boundaries of Community Heights. As our staff grows in capacity, competence, and influence – the whole church grows and benefits. • The lead pastor provides oversight for all pastoral and other staff members and is held accountable to the elders, who form the governance authority of Community Heights.
