Biblical Characteristics Desired:

Timeline for Deployment:

Summer/Fall 2023. All appointees are required to attend a cross-cultural and language acquisition program and Pre-Field Orientation prior to deploying.

General Information:

Working in this creative access country (CAC) requires a business platform that is of value to the local culture. While most of the current work is focused in one particular region, you will have opportunities to spend time in other regions as opportunities arise. While there are many western amenities available, there is much spiritual darkness in the city and the country is facing severe instability. Hope is desperately needed to be shared here.

Language Expectations:

Language is an essential part of ministry. The successful applicant(s) will receive one year of intense language study followed by ongoing language and cultural acquisition. The goal will be to speak, read, and write the language at a functional level in order to mentor, teach, and train others.

While this is country is considered an Arab country, it still uses French in the business world and so much of the culture has French culture woven into it. You will be part of a 6-12 month intensive language program in France. Having French before arriving has allowed units to adapt better.

The main language is a local dialect of Arabic. International workers (IW’s) in this language group typically receive two years of intensive language and cultural study. The goal will be to speak and understand the local Arabic dialect at a level which allows the IW to build into peoples’ lives.

In a CAC, legitimacy in the eyes of the government and community is also important. Language may take place alongside setting up a low-key business with the help of teammates. A specialized language plan will be created with the successful applicant’s needs in mind.

Health Considerations:

Medical services are adequate. Many medical personnel are trained in Europe. Private clinics offer most of the services we are used to in America, and the cost is very reasonable. Malaria is NOT an issue here. Most medications found in the United States can be obtained here at the local pharmacy. While the medical services are good, it is advised that those with special health considerations contact the field before application. You may contact the field through the IPO.

Expectations for Spouse:

Spousal roles vary based on the spouse’s gifts, training, and abilities, as well as the needs of the team. It is expected that both spouses will be meaningfully involved in meeting ministry objectives, depending on the nature of family roles, children, etc.

Children’s Educational Plan and Options:

There are quality education options available in the city so home schooling is discouraged. There is an English-language private school suitable for elementary, middle, and high school aged children in the capital. There are also local French and Arabic schools available which multiple units send their children to.

Compensation

The successful applicant(s) will receive a full compensation package with the expectation that, once appointed, efforts will be made to raise a portion of support costs through the applicant’s network of friends and family, local church, or other resources. Information on support costs will be made available upon application. Training and/or coaching in fund-raising is available.

Important Clarification:

Applicants should be aware that serving in the international world often requires a higher degree of grace and flexibility. For example, overseas teams can be suddenly and unexpectedly impacted by illness, government decisions, financial realities, team changes, or other factors beyond the team’s control. The challenge for applicants is that these factors can sometimes necessitate the sudden redefining of a position, which may take place before, during, or after the application/interview process.
