Ministry Update

Michael & Christina Chang’s Biographies

Michael Chang (given name in Chinese at birth: Chang Sien-Min)

Michael was born and raised in Taiwan (1952). At early teen (1965) he emigrated with his family to Argentina.

Upon graduation from high school, Michael came to America to pursue higher education (University of Maryland), later graduated with an engineering degree (1977). Michael worked for Westinghouse Electric Corp. in Pittsburgh (1978-1987).

Michael received Jesus Christ in 5/1978. Married Christina in 7/1978.

Christina (Lee Miu-Ling) was born and raise in Hong Kong. She emigrated with her family to U.S.A. in 1973.

M&C joined the Pittsburgh Chinese Church and grew up spiritually and finally received GOD’s call for full-time ministry (1/1978-7/1987). Both M&C were baptized at the PCC on 10/8/1978.

Michael dedicated himself to full-time ministry in 1985. Christina also felt called into full-time ministry in 1986. In 7/1987, Michael resigned from Westinghouse and his family of four moved to Nyack NY, when Jenny (daughter) was 8 and David (son) was 5. Michael enrolled in the full-time program at the Alliance Theological Seminary in 8/1987, and graduated with the MDiv. degree 3 years later in 5/1990.

Upon graduation from ATS, Michael & Christina were called to Danbury CT. They founded and pastored Danbury Chinese Alliance Church (Danbury CT, 7/1990-2/2003). During their time in Danbury, Michael served as a member of the NE District Dex-Com and LOCC (mid 1990’s to 2/2003).

In 6/2002, both M&C were called by GOD to serve the Chinese Diaspora in Peru. The following year they were sent by IM to Peru to conduct Chinese Evangelism and Church Planting (2/2003). First they went to Costa Rica for a 6-month language study (3/2003-8/2003). When M&C left U.S.A. for international ministries, Jenny was in her second year teaching at the Boston public school system; David was in his junior year at Wheaton College. Both children stayed in the U.S.A.

Michael and Miguel (a Peruvian-Chinese national) co-founded the San Borja Chinese Alliance Church in Lima in 10/2003. Their vision was to reach every Chinese immigrant residing in Peru with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Over time, they established church planting projects in various districts of Lima and in two provincial cities. There are thousands of Chinese restaurants in Peru. To reach the restaurant owners and workers with the gospel, mid-night restaurant services were founded along with other church ministries. All these aforementioned Chinese ministries are under the auspice of the Peruvian Alliance National Church.

San Borja CAC undertook the vision for building project in late 2005. Purchasing of property in 2007. Various phases of construction until final completion (2009-2015).

In 3/2016 San Borja Chinese Alliance Church was recognized by the Peruvian Alliance National Church as an organized church. In 10/2016 Pastor Miguel succeeded Michael and was installed by the national Church to the position of Senior Pastor.

Starting in 2017, Michael and Christina started the transition process out of the Chinese diaspora ministry in Peru which allowed Pastor Miguel and his team to emerge and solidify leadership in the San Borja CAC and its extended ministries.
On 12/15/2018, M&C returned to U.S.A. for a 3-month H/A followed by retirement.

Praise the LORD for His mercy and faithfulness through out our 32 years of service with the C&MA (1987-2019).
