Executive Director — Poplar Point Alliance Camp Poplar Point Camp (PPC) serves the Southern District of The Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) as a venue for Christian Camping, retreats, and other such activities. While PPC’s primary service is to the C&MA and its affiliated churches within the geographic boundaries of the Southern District (Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, that portion of Florida in the Central time zone, and that portion of Louisiana east of the Mississippi River), when not in use by the C&MA, the facilities are available for rental by other Christian organizations and churches. PPC is physically located at 35 Poplar Point Camp Road, Rockford, AL which is midway between Birmingham and Montgomery, Alabama. PPC is governed by an active board comprised of six lay workers, two official C&MA workers, Southern District Camping Director, and Southern District Superintendent. PPC has traditionally functioned with a husband/wife ministry team overseeing all the day-to-day operations, maintenance, meal planning, cooking, etc. A combination of volunteer and contract labor is used to help in cooking, cleaning, and maintenance as required. PPC hires a lifeguard when the pool is in use. PPC has a three bedroom/two bath residence that the Executive Director must live in as a condition of employment. Normal utilities are provided. We are looking for an energetic, conscientious, and detail oriented individual/couple who enjoys making a difference, being part of a team, and taking pride in their career, to work in a productive camp environment. Character, attitude, skills, and habits are key in our evaluation and consideration. Purpose: We are looking for someone to manage the day-to-day operations of PPC (recruiting and scheduling groups using the camp, maintenance, hiring help as needed, recruiting and scheduling volunteers) but also someone who has the vision to advance the camp and its ministries into the future by further developing the facilities into a true year-round facility. The Executive Director must view his role as a partnership in advancing the ministry of the camp and The Alliance Southern District. Hours: This is a salaried position with hours dependent on seasonal and weekly scheduling demands. The traditional camping season is May through September, with various additional weekend and weekly events scheduled throughout the remainder of the year. Supervisory Skills Note: The Kitchen Manager position was previously filled by Executive Director’s spouse at $35.00 per meal ($2,600 current budget estimate). • Maintenance Role: ? Experience in Building & Construction (Oversee and Manage Construction/Building Program) ? Knowledgeable in General Maintenance (Plumbing, Electrical, Light Carpentry, Pool) ? Grounds Keeping (Mowing, Landscaping, Weed Eating) ? Light Mechanical Work (Simple Maintenance on Vehicles and Equipment) ? General Cleaning of Facilities • Administration Role: ? Budgeting ? Bookkeeping using Quicken ? Maintaining camp records ? Website ? Competency in basic business practices and procedures Cultural Awareness: • Because PPC is situated in the rural south and primarily serves southern churches, it is essential that the candidate be culturally astute and adaptable; willing and able to understand, appreciate, embrace, and exhibit good old-fashioned southern hospitality and southern living! Compensation/Benefits: • Salary/compensation is commensurate with camps of similar size and based upon the applicant’s knowledge and experience. • Three bedroom/2 bath brick home with living room, eat-in kitchen, laundry, family room, camp office, home office, and standard utilities (electric, water, propane, internet, camp telephone) included. (Note: Per current IRS regulations, housing and utilities are not subject to income tax since residency is a condition of employment) • Personal time at current policy schedule. • Vacation at the current policy schedule. • Sick time at the current policy schedule. Note: This employment relationship is regarded as "at will." A performance review shall be conducted after the first summer camping season followed by an annual performance review on or near the time of the employment anniversary. Resignations: It is expected that, prior to resignation, dialogue will ensue between the Executive Director and the board to allow the maximum amount of time to transition between Executive Directors. Notice should be far enough in advance to prevent hindering a camping season but shall be a minimum of two weeks unless otherwise approved by the Board.
