Ohio Valley District C&MA

Senior Pastor Ohio Valley District C&MA Located in Lexington, Kentucky, First Christian & Missionary Alliance Church (“First Alliance”) is a church with average attendance of 833 people and a strong reputation based on a welcoming atmosphere and intentional focus on advancing the Kingdom, including through engagement in all aspects of missions. First Alliance began as a tent church in 1949 and celebrated its 60th anniversary as an incorporated C&MA church in 2016. Our Signature Statement is “Working together to seek, reach, and then build fully devoted followers of Jesus.” To fulfill this goal, we focus on Reaching people who yet remain outside of God’s saving love in Christ Jesus (Romans 10:14); Building fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ by cultivating prayer and the other Christian life skill sets that will produce true, Christian spirituality in the lives of our people (I Cor. 2:9-16); Serving and caring for the people within the sphere of our influence (Galatians 6:2); Sending well-developed, faithful disciples of Jesus Christ who understand and take responsibility for the world-wide scope of evangelism and discipleship that is express in the Great Commission (Matt. 24:14); and Praising God in a community of faith that enters whole heartedly into the worship of Him (John 4:24). Sunday morning services are at 9:00 and 10:45 with an intervening fellowship period. The worship style is moderately blended, primarily consisting of contemporary worship songs mixed with occasional hymns. The worship team consists of song leaders, with a band comprised of percussion, guitar, piano, and occasionally other instruments. First Alliance is predominately white middle class, but has become increasingly more diverse over time. A high percentage of our people are college attendees or graduates, including a strong contingent of retired pastors, missionaries, para-church workers, and educators and administrators from Asbury University, Asbury Theological Seminary (“ATS”), and the University of Kentucky. We also draw from our strong involvement in Bible Study Fellowship and our connection with the Beeson Scholars program at ATS. Despite this, First Alliance is not stuffy or overly-intellectual; instead, we have been described as “blue collar professional” – professionals by trade – MD, JD, MBA, educators, engineers – but workers, leaders, and active participants in church life and our communities. First Alliance has enjoyed seventeen years under the leadership of our current Senior Pastor, and has developed over those years from a 300 person church beset with internal challenges into a vitalized church that has steadily grown to over 1,000 attendees before empowering its people to plant a number of churches in the surrounding community. We sense the church is poised to make deeper and greater contributions to God’s kingdom, and look forward to God’s choice of the next Senior Pastor who can help us walk forward through inspired preaching of the Word, compassionate leadership, and prayerful vision.
