Role Description: Director for Children’s Ministries Lancaster, PA Alliance Church Purpose: The Director for Children’s Ministries shall direct and oversee the ministry to children from birth through Grade 4 in partnership with other church staff and parents, by striving for a balanced Biblical education in building strong, spiritually healthy, discipled children who are growing spiritually, involved in ministry and sharing their faith. This is considered a full time exempt position investing 40 hours per week in addition to Sunday Morning and Wednesday evening time requirements. Compensation will be consistent with experience and training and may include other benefits to be determined in the process of hiring. Qualifications: Shall evidence a mature spiritual life, the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) and patterns of growth and discipline consistent with a leader in the church as required by the scriptural instruction in I Timothy 3:1-7. Shall be in agreement with the Statement of Faith of Lancaster Alliance Church and be willing to align with the mission, values, vision and current direction of the Church. If married, shall evidence a strong relationship with their spouse and children. Shall regularly attend the public services of the Lancaster Alliance Church and be involved in the life of the church. Shall have competency and commitment to work with children and committed to their spiritual development. Shall have educational preparation and training consistent with the role being assumed with a pattern of ongoing learning and enrichment in their area of expertise. Shall have a minimum of 5 years of effective experience in ministry to children. Shall have an ability to relate well to a broad cross section of people. Shall have the ability to recruit, equip and lead volunteer staff. Shall be willing to participate in regular leadership training events. Shall be willing and able to be credentialed by the Christian and Missionary Alliance for vocational ministry. Responsibilities: Shall have oversight of all children’s ministries from birth - grade 4 including nursery and preschool programs, children’s church, children’s Sunday school, children’s Wednesday night activities, special events such as our weeklong summer camp, and outreach events. The primary focus of the role will be on K-4th grade programs. Partner with other staff members and volunteers to minister to all children and create continuity in the discipleship of a child from birth to Grade 4. Shall recruit and develop a Children’s Ministry leadership team that would meet quarterly to assist in leading children’s ministry by providing feedback and direction for future ministries. Shall recruit and oversee the training of all children’s ministry volunteers. Visit children in the hospital to include ministry to families going through challenging times with children who are sick or troubled. This could also include outpatient procedures which might cause anxiety and heightened concern. Oversee orientation for incoming kindergarteners with help of Director for Preschool Ministries and assist Student Ministries staff in the orientation for 4th graders moving up to the 56 program. Working with the Director for Preschool Ministries & elementary leaders, shall develop an annual ministry plan and budget for Children’s Ministries with appropriate goals. These goals/purposes should align with the overall ministry to the congregation. The Director for Children’s Ministries and the Director for Preschool Ministries should meet regularly to determine progress and to evaluate the effectiveness of the ministries. Shall be considered a part of the Pastoral Leadership Team contributing to the overall direction of the church in cooperation with other staff members. This includes attendance at the weekly pastoral staff meeting. Report monthly to the CLT giving progress on mutually agreed upon plans and directions. Meet regularly with the Pastor for Discipleship Ministries to pray and set direction for Children’s Ministries. Accountably: The Director for Elementary Age Ministries oversees the Director for Preschool Ministries and reports to the Pastor for Discipleship Ministries. Shall be hired with the approval of the Lead Pastor, Pastor for Discipleship Ministries and the CLT. Shall participate in an annual review by the Pastor for Discipleship Ministries who shall summarize the review for the Lead Pastor and the CLT.
