Principle function: The Jr. High Student Ministries Pastor is responsible for leading efforts of the Junior High portion of the Student Ministries. Specific emphasis will be placed on his involvement in relational discipleship, effective administration of the ministry, and stewardship of the ministry and its resources. Because this position is a pastoral role, the pastor will be expected to implement a ministry based on his personal skills and gifting, educational background, previous experiences, and personal passions. Accountability: The Student Ministries Pastor is accountable to Lead Pastor, Executive Pastor, and Elder Board. He is also part of the Ministry Leadership Team, of which he is expected to be an active and valuable participant. He will closely work with his administrative assistant and lead a team of student ministry volunteers. Qualifications: The foundational qualities for the Student Ministries Pastor are outlined in I Timothy 3:1-7 Additional qualifications include: A clear call to ministry with students and families Maturity in pastoral ministries Demonstration to lead a ministry for students A “shepherd’s” heart of compassion and care for students and families Ability to communicate ideas, inspire and cooperate with others Exhibits administrative and organizational skills Displays initiative, follow through, and a teachable spirit Fosters accountability with staff and ministry volunteers Evidence of obedience to and dependency on the Lord Evidence of a Spirit-filled life of prayer and adherence to God’s Word A BA or MA degree in a ministry-related field or its equivalent Ordained and licensed Respect for authority Evidence of a life of prayer, Bible study, and obedience to the Lord Responsibilities: Student Ministries Develop a practical way of implementing and fulfilling the church’s vision of “Loving Jesus, Growing Together, and Serving our World” within Student Ministries. Oversee and coordinate the ministries of Junior High students. Share the leadership of the Student Ministries as a whole with the Sr. High Pastor, using each other’s giftedness to accomplish God’s will and execute effective ministry. Be involved in the counseling of students and their families as needed. Recruit, organize, and train a volunteer team of leaders. Communicate with parents on a regular basis. Manage the use of the Jr. High Ministries budget and associated student ministry funds. Motivate and empower students to local and global outreach. Oversee student ministries internships as opportunities arise. General: Serve as a non-voting member of the Elder Board, and submit a written monthly report of activities to the Elder Board. Assist in the visitation of individuals in the hospital and nursing homes, shut-ins, visitors and others. Participate in weekly staff meetings and prayer times. Communicate relevant adjustments and events of the Student Ministries with the church staff, leadership and church family. Coordinate ministry calendars with other ministry leaders. Participate in worship services as needed. Preach and teach as needed. Be encouraged to attend at least one conference per year to help maintain competence in pastoral ministry. Provide an annual written review of ministry activity for the church annual report. Receive an annual ministry review from the Executive Pastor, which is also provided to the Elder Board. Give or be given by the Elder Board a six-week notice in the event of severing the ministry relationship.
