Prepare the Way For the Lord
God is on the move in our world, making a way for all peoples to see His salvation.
A voice of one calling in the wilderness, “Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him. Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth. And all people will see God’s salvation.”
Luke 3:4–6 (quoting Isaiah 40)
No one is unreachable. But many are overlooked. In urban centers. In remote villages. In the tough places. Yet God is moving, making a way for everyone to see His salvation. He doesn’t ask us to go do this for Him but to come do this with Him.
Making A Way
God is a way–maker. Despite today’s “wilderness” world, He is active, making a way for the fulfillment of His promise.
God’s “way-making” strategy is rooted in the “bookend” promises of His Word. In Genesis 22:18 He promised Abraham “through you all people on earth will be blessed.“ In Revelation chapter 7 we see this promise fulfilled. Great crowds “from every tribe and tongue and people” surround the throne of Jesus, declaring “Salvation belongs to the Lord our God.”
Prepare the Way for The Lord
Tim Crouch, U.S. Alliance vice president for International Ministries, challenges us to see that the frightening events in our world may actually be things God is using to fulfill His purposes to bring all people to Himself.
He Asks Us to Join Him
Way–makers are those who learn to see God’s ways in the world more than obstacles, to see people rather than problems, to see that threats are often opportunities. They love rather than fear (see 1 John 4:18).
The cry “Prepare the way of the Lord” also is our life purpose. Our way-maker God calls us to join Him as way-makers. As we align our lives with whom He is and what He’s doing, He transforms us and empowers us to proclaim and demonstrate His ways to others.

So All People See His Salvation
There is a lot of traffic on God’s road in our world today. He’s moving people groups toward Himself; He’s moving us toward them and them toward us.
“Prepare the Way of the Lord…And all people will see God’s salvation.” How do we respond to this picture of a God on the move, building a highway through the wilderness places of our world? How do we become way–makers who move with Him, who live radically transformed lives aligned with His Kingdom promises?
We yield to God’s Holy Spirit, asking Him to open our eyes, renew our minds, and transform us into people who live for His way. What kind of life could we possibly rather live?!
