The Alliance is assisting survivors of natural disasters in the Asia Pacific region this week. At least 1,100 people have died as a result of two earthquakes in Indonesia. Hundreds more perished in the Philippines and Vietnam after Typhoon Ketsana slammed both countries.

More than 1,000 young people attended a four-day youth conference last week in Pyramid, Indonesia, in Papua’s highlands. “Dozens made decisions to receive Jesus, dozens more brought fetishes to be burned, and still dozens more committed their life to serve Christ full-time,” says Alliance worker Barry Jordan, who ministered at the retreat.

A breakaway group from the C&MA national church in Indonesia burned down an Alliance church and two houses. In addition, an Alliance church service was disrupted when a number of youth from the breakaway group stormed into the church. There were no reports of violence, but the service was stopped and the congregation left.
