On Friday night, July 8, at LIFE 2016 in Kansas City, students and their sponsors raised more than $55,000 to support a new work among Syrian refugees in Germany.
The offering will be used to help a veteran Alliance worker couple build a team, establish a gospel presence, and plant an Arab-speaking church among the tens of thousands of Syrians who have settled in this German city. The vast majority of these refugees have fled the violence in their homeland, often with nothing but the clothes on their backs, in hopes of establishing a new life in a less hostile and threatening place. But still, they remain strangers in a strange land, in need not only of housing, food, clothing, and other living essentials but also of caring friendships and spiritual support. Many of them—particularly the children—are in dire need of trauma counseling, as they have witnessed atrocities that they could not possibly process on their own.
As soon as the students attending LIFE 2016 in Kansas City heard of this need and of the opportunity they had to help meet it, they emptied their pockets, eagerly giving up any cash they would have used to buy t-shirts, souvenirs—even meals—to help these Syrians rebuild their lives.
Well done, LIFERS!
