When Citylight Church (Alliance) began in Philadelphia in 2012, its goal was to be a church-planting church. That dream will become a reality next month with the launch of Citylight’s second congregation in North Center City.
Church leadership chose this location for the opportunity it presents to minister among a dense population of unchurched people, near colleges and universities, among the poor, and among an ethnically diverse community. North Center City was also an attractive location to choose because it hasn’t been the target of much church planting in recent years, says Mike Anderson, congregational pastor of the new plant.
For now, on Sunday mornings the church will rent the Philadelphia Boys Choir building located at 1336 Spring Garden St. A launch team of about 40 people will work together to pull off the first service October 4.
Pray
“Pray that we as a launch team would intentionally invite others outside the church to the launch service and that many would come,” Anderson said. Pray, too, that their worship glorifies Jesus, builds up His people, and challenges the lost. Pray God would use this new plant to be a blessing to Center City, Philadelphia.
