Sixty Believers Baptized in Cambodia

Sixty people were baptized in Cambodia recently.

On June 28, 60 people were baptized in a pond in Poipet, Cambodia. “Although the service was scheduled for 9 a.m., eager church families began to show up at our door as early as six o’clock,” said Alliance international workers Soeuth and Syna Lao.

Because it was the height of rainy season, there was concern that roads might be impassable due to flooding. “But the God who ordained the seasons answered our prayers by holding off the rain for two days,” said the Laos. “And [it was] a beautiful, breezy day.”

At least 100 people were packed inside the Laos’ house for the worship service, and many were standing outside.

After a short message by Pastor Nhan, president of the KEC’s (Khmer Evangelical Church) Peayop region, Soeuth quizzed the baptismal candidates, asking why they chose to be baptized.

Several shared brief testimonies of what God was doing in their lives. One woman, Mrs. Sivourn, shared her story. After being a Christian for barely a month, she is not only sharing the gospel with all of her neighbors and friends, but she also led one person to the Lord. “Her love for Jesus is contagious—and an inspiration to everyone!” the Laos said.

After the service, the church members crossed the dirt roads to a nearby pond. “What a parade it was!” said the Laos. Cheered on by family and friends, the believers lined up into two rows, where Pastor Nhan and Soeuth were waiting to receive them into the water. One by one, each person stepped into the pond and was baptized.

Among those being baptized was the Laos’ 12-year-old son, Jonathan. “Since he has lived in Poipet most of his life, how fitting it was that he decided to get baptized with some of his Khmer friends,” said the Laos.

“Thank you for praying for our ministry,” they added. “God is good!”
